Biscornu Finish

Last Friday I finished my first biscornu. I did try one before but cut far too close to the backstitch line and it frayed and the backstitching pulled out while I was finishing it. With this one, however, I left about half an inch of fabric and it stitched together really well. I'm not overly happy with the button though, but it was the best I could find. I have seen some lovely buttons on biscornus on some of your blogs, but they obviously have shanks on them. How on earth do you sew those on? If anyone can help me there I'd be very grateful.

I really haven't done much stitching lately and none at all since last Thursday. Then, I re-started my L&L Celtic Christmas which I'm stitching in the alternative colours i.e. blues and lilacs. I had started it last summer on a piece of hand dyed fabric that I had in my stash, BUT I left it on the hoop and it left a lovely blue ring mark! Now, I'm stitching it on pale lilac Brittney which is almost the same colour as the other piece of fabric. I haven't done enough yet to show you a photo. Oh yes, and I have done just a wee bit more on Floralie.

On Saturday I had a trip to Wye Needlecraft at Bakewell. We were looking for somewhere to go for tea and cake and hadn't been to Bakewell for about six months. I also wanted some black evenweave and hand dyed threads to make more biscornus with, hence the visit to Wye. I did look at the charts but was very good, mind you I was reminded by Keith several times that I'm on the wagon, and didn't buy any. In fact I didn't buy anything at all as Keith bought me the fabric and three WDW's threads.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words about Mum. we wait with baited breath for the results of the last biopsy which she will get tomorrow (Thursday) when she sees the surgeon.

I'm really frustrated with Blogger at the moment as it won't seem to let me paragraph my posts. Why not?!!!! Grrrr!!!!!!

Edited to add that thanks to Teejay I now have paragraphs.

Good wishes to your mum, and I hope she gets a good result from the biopsy x

when you type your post there should be a tab that says html right on top and next to your post, if you go into that tab your typed post will be encoded, that is where you can set up your paragraphs.

Gorgeous biscornu! So, so pretty. I'm looking forward to seeing Celtic Christmas. I have the chart and alternative for her too.

Wye Needlecraft is a great shop. I was there about a month ago. Couldn't you just spend a fortune in there?

A great and cute biscornu for the first time. I use button with shank all the time. It works the same way as button with holes. You need to try it and see what will happen, you will pull the same way to make the "dent". If you need more help, just email me at ann62texas@gmail.com. I don't forsee you will have any problem at all. So are we going to see more biscornu?

Keeping my fingers crossed that your mum gets good results Nicola.

I used a shank button and it wasnt too bad as you can sort of push the side of the biscornu out the way as they are so lovely and soft. I sort of tilted the button to the side to get at the needle when it was returning, then threaded the needle through the shank and then tilted the button again to push the needle back in.
lol hope that makes sense.

Re Wye - ahh I find them so expensive I think shopping around on line has made me much more aware of prices too. Also the last time we went in there seemed to have been a change of staff and they were quite disinterested. I asked if they had any Victoria Sampler's Beyond Cross Stitch kit and the girl said they will be with the Victoria Samplers stuff over there if we do. She didnt know and didnt even offer to look or ask anyone else. I left with nothing (must be a first lol)
